Tuesday@Secession: Yasmina Haddad with Mario Petrucci Espinoza and Nils Amadeus Lange
July 12, 2022
Yasmina Haddad with Mario Petrucci Espinoza and Nils Amadeus Lange
Yasmina Haddad invited street vocalist Mario Petrucci Espinoza and performer Nils Amadeus Lange for an attempt to queer the space/ground in/on which the Secession is situated — between the Marc-Anton group, the sign announcing the new shows and the pointy tip of the garden, forming a kind of unseen triangle. The ritual will contain a sound set spanning works from Lili Boulanger to Moor Mother, 3 songs, a text, and a politically charged costume.
Mario Petrucci Espinoza is a Venezuelan multidisciplinary artist, working mostly within the realm of vocal performance and naturalistic visual arts. Educated in painting at the Academy of Arts in Florence, he has begun to delve into time-based arts, pursuing themes of forgotten memory in folk tradition, and bringing his own intimacy and personal processes into the public sphere, often intervening in public spaces. He has performed in various Swiss institutions such as the Centre d’Art Contemporain de Genève, FriArt, and Helmhaus.
Nils Amadeus Lange works as an artist, performer and lecturer in Zurich. After studying theatre at the Bern University of the Arts he expanded his practice to various media, keeping a focus on dance and performance, developing numerous international projects. At the centre of his practice is the body, which functions as a means of deconstructing social conventions and gender stereotypes. For the past six years he has been teaching, developing curricula in various universities, within departments varying between fashion, acting, fine arts, photography and performance; implementing alternative forms of learning and experimental approaches.
His works have been shown at various institutions such as Kunsthalle Basel, Kunsthalle Zürich, Manifesta Zürich, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art Warsaw, Istituto Svizzero Rome, Belvedere 21 Vienna, Centre d‘Art Contemporain Genève, Swiss Dance Days, Zürich moves!, Gessnerallee, Frascati Amsterdam, ZÜRICH TANZT, Berliner Festspiele, Kunsthalle Bern, Les Urbaines Lausanne, Südpol Luzern, Tanzhaus Zürich und CounterPulse San Francisco, Cabaret Voltaire Zürich.
Yasmina Haddad is a photographer, lecturer, artist on occasions, and the co-director and part of the artists collective/space school together with Andrea Lumplecker.
Yasmina has been hosting THE UNQUESTIONED ANSWER in different settings, up to 12 hours long rituals in which patriarchal narratives are neutralized, female read music production is celebrated, and voids in music history are pointed out.
Her artistic practice is based on photography and sometimes extends to different media such as sound, sculpture and set design. The works mostly focus on how different cultural expressions are inevitably connected and how this reciprocal impact manifests through esthetics. Portrayed in stage-like situations, the subjects that often derive from the fields of fashion, depict socio-cultural processes and recall the malaise of postmodern sensitivities.
Yasmina ́s work has been presented at Beirut Art Center Beirut, mauve Vienna, Liu Haisu Museum Shanghai, Kunsthalle Exnergasse Vienna, House of Arts Brno, Gallery of the Academy of Applied Arts at Heiligenkreuzer Hof Vienna, Mak Vienna, ISCP NYC, The Lobby NYC, Station Intervention KÖR Vienna and many others.
